Rust Belt definition - finance
An area of the United States that once was strong in manufacturing and steel production but has declined in the last 30 years; the region includes states in or near the Great Lakes region, such as Pennsylvania, Ohio, Michigan, and other states. The exact states that comprise the Rust Belt vary depending on who is using the term. Others that may show up on lists include Illinois, Indiana, Wisconsin, parts of upstate New York, and New Jersey.
