privacy policy

privacy policy definition - finance
A written policy that spells out the details of a companyÂ’s policy about selling or sharing customersÂ’ names, addresses, phone numbers, and e‑mail addresses with third parties. A privacy policy also may outline whether the company will sell or share financial information. If a consumer objects to having personal information shared, the law puts the onus on the consumer to object in writing. Privacy policies are often on Web pages, with visitors having to click a button to acknowledge that they have read and agreed to the terms.
