services that enable customers to transmit large volumes of data in a secure
and economical manner. Packet services are used for local area network
interconnection, remote site, point of sale, and branch office communications.
Technically speaking, packet services include frame relay, ATM (asynchronous
transfer mode), and IP (Internet Protocol) connectivity services. Frame
relay services are provided by telecommunications companies that
connect local area networks to national or regional networks. Internet
Protocol sends data from one computer to another on the Internet;
each computer has at least one unique address.
