New York Mercantile Exchange definition - finance
A futures exchange that trades a variety of metals and energy futures and options contracts. Futures and options contracts that are traded on the exchange, using open-outcry trading in pits devoted to each product, include the following: energy products such as crude oil (Brent and West Texas Intermediate crude oil and light, sweet crude), gasoline, heating oil, natural gas, propane, electricity, and coal. Metals contracts include gold, silver, platinum, palladium, copper, and aluminum. Gold, silver, copper, and aluminum contracts are traded on COMEX, a wholly-owned subsidiary of NYMEX.

NYMEX ACCESS is the ExchangeÂ’s electronic trading system, which is available when open-outcry pit trading is not available.
