Merrill, Charles E. definition - finance
One of the founders of the largest U.S. stock and bond firm, Merrill Lynch. Before the crash of 1929, he advised his clients to sell some of the stocks in their portfolios. During the 1930s he concentrated on building the Safeway supermarket chain. In the 1940s he returned to Wall Street and focused on bringing stock investments to small investors.
