A
document that lets the creator state his or her preferences about what type of
medical treatment should be given in the event that he or she becomes
terminally ill or severely injured and is unable to declare his or her
intentions. A living will dictates whether the person is to be fed
intravenously or to be put on a respirator, among other health-care directives.
