The creator of fast-food restaurant chain McDonaldÂ’s Corporation, which started the standardized, fast-food industry. Kroc was a 52-year-old milkshake-machine salesman who, in 1954, bought the franchise rights to a small chain of Southern California hamburger stands run by the McDonald brothers; seven years later, in 1961, he bought the company for $14 million.
