interexchange carrier definition - finance
A telecom term that refers to U.S. long distance companies, such as AT&T Corporation, Sprint Corporation, and MCI Corporation. An interexchange carrier is a telephone com-pany that provides connections between local exchanges in different geographic areas. Interexchange carriers provide interLATA service, which is a term used in the U.S. for a geographic area that is covered by one or more local telephone companies, or local exchange carriers (LECs).
