independent research

independent research definition - finance
Research on stock and bond investments that is free of investment banking conflicts, because it is offered by firms that are not involved in investment banking. In December 2002, to settle conflict-of-interest accusations, securities regulators reached an agreement with ten of the largest investment banks that called for them to spend $450 million to provide independent research to their customers, in addition to their own research.
