heating degree day

heating degree day definition - finance
A measurement commonly used in the energy market to determine how warm the weather is for a specific region. One heating degree day is accumulated for each degree that the average temperature for a day falls below 65 degrees Fahrenheit. For example, if the average temperature for the day was 60, that would count as 5 heating degree days (5 degrees multiplied by 1 day).
