Fedwire definition - finance
A payment system that is used by the 12 Federal Reserve Banks, their 24 branches, the Federal Reserve Board, and the U.S. Treasury Department. Banks can instantaneously transfer money between themselves as well as transfer money for business customers. The transaction is made in real time so the recipient immediately has the funds.
