economic indicator definition - finance
Any of a number of important economic statistics
that are typically announced monthly. Investors and economists look at economic
indicators to gauge the overall health of the economy and use them as a guide
to develop their expectations for the stock market. Examples of economic
indicators are the non-farm payroll report, or the unemployment report as it is
referred to in news reports, and inflation reports, such as the producer price
inflation and consumer price inflation reports.
