doing business as

doing business as definition - finance
Used to mean that a name is not the legal name of the individual or business. For example, sole proprietorships often do business under a name other than the legal name of the owner: Jane Smith DBA JaneÂ’s Flowers. DBA certificates are filed with governmental authorities. The filing allows govern-
mental units or anyone having a legal claim against the company to discover who the legal owner is.
