convertible preferred stock

convertible preferred stock definition - finance
Preferred stock that can be exchanged for shares of common stock according to the ratio stated in the preferred stock contract. The conversion feature is attractive because if the market value of a companyÂ’s common stock rises, the preferred stockholders share in the appreciation, either through the rising price of the preferred stock price or by converting to common stock at the fixed ratio, which may provide a greater return.
