The University of MichiganÂ’s consumer sentiment index that is closely watched by those who follow the economy and the financial markets. Typically traders react not so much to what the index says, but rather to how closely the results matched analystsÂ’ expectations. The present situation index measures consumersÂ’ current attitudes about the economy and their finances.
