commodities index definition - finance
An index compiled to track the price movements of any of a group of around 20 commodities. These indices are created by a variety of brokerage firms and news agencies. The best-known index is the CRB Index, which began in 1934. Other indices include the Reuters/CRB index, Dow Jones-AIG Commodity Index, Goldman Sachs Commodity Index, JP Morgan Commodity Index, and the S&P Commodities Index (SPCI).
