The inventor of the telephone. He patented the telephone on February 14, 1876, filing his application on the same day as Elisha Gray of Western Union. He refined the telephone with the help of Thomas Edison. He also contributed to the education of the deaf, by researching a machine to make sound understandable, which fed into his ideas about the telephone.
