beggar-thy-neighbor policies

beggar-thy-neighbor policies definition - finance
Econ-omic actions taken by one country to improve its economic situation that may have adverse effects on other economies. For example, a country may lower prices on certain goods or push down the value of its currency to increase exports in the hope that more jobs will be created. In this case, surrounding countries may be harmed by cheap imports flowing into their borders. Retaliatory actions may ensue, and thus worsen economic situations for both countries.
