An electronic communications network owned by an association of banks. The bank wire transfers messages between subscribing banks and offers a check clearing service called Cashwire. The best-known bank wire is the Fed Wire, which is a high-speed computerized network that connects all of the Federal Reserve banks, their branches, and the U.S. Treasury. It lets the members transfer reserves between themselves and make transfers for business customers.
