An
employee of a sell-side firm (a Wall Street broker), a buy-side firm (a mutual
fund or investment management company), or an independent research firm that
makes buy and sell recommendations on companies in a particular industry.
Analysts also are employed by companies involved in commodities trading to
recommend when customers should buy and sell futures contracts and suggest
appropriate trading strategies.
