Preposition: as

• direction: The turtle will start at the origin with the Z-axis as forward direction and Y-axis as left direction.

Converse of object

• cross: A line is described by its gradient and intercept, the point at which the line crosses the y-axis.

Adjective modifier

• positive: This is defined in degrees going anti-clockwise from the positive y-axis.

Modifies a noun

• scale: Note the smaller scale of the y-axis scale in the top right figure for reasons of visibility.

• point: The y-axis points will usually be some function of the x-axis array, say a sinusoidal function.
