Modifies a noun

• tome: I suspect far more people became better informed from the site visit than any weighty tome.

• matter: I saw him in council rooms, discussing weighty matters.

• volume: This weighty first volume takes the reader up to the end of Sassoon's participation in the First World War.

• consideration: These would be weighty material considerations for the Inspector to take into account.

• argument: That was a weighty moral argument: the police performed their duties for the benefit of us all.

Modifying Another Word

• sufficiently: Such tentative evidence is not yet sufficiently weighty to change the author's convictions that the universe must be finite in all respects.

• fairly: I'm not sure what the heavy plant in question was - but Martin tells me the nettles were fairly weighty!

• rather: Not for the faint hearted this ironing board is rather weighty.

• pretty: The lid holds the motor, hence is pretty weighty.

• quite: Lever arch folders are slightly harder wearing but not much use unless your evidence is quite weighty.
