• remove: Using a sharp knife or half round file remove the swarf from inside the ends of the pipes.

• clean: After cleaning any swarf away, I refitted the elbow, and then fitted the hose fitting with some PTFE tape on the threads.

• allow: A quaint Drummond custom was to leave the headstock oiler nuts without covers - allowing swarf and dirt to drop into the bearings.

• clear: Rotate half a turn, then back out, then rotate again Regularly back the tap out of the hole to clear any swarf.
