ECRI Weekly Leading Index Finance Definition
An index, released each Friday by the Economic Cycle
Research Institute, that identifies turning points in the economic cycle that
are indicated by pronounced changes in the index. The index contains money
supply data, stock prices, an industrial markets price index developed by the
organization, mortgage applications, bond quality spread, bond yields, and
initial jobless claims. An advantage of the index is that it is very timely.
However, it is relatively new and its predictive ability is relatively
untested.
