(WIRELESS High Definition) An in-room wireless technology from the WirelessHD consortium for transmitting uncompressed and lossless high-definition video and other media over short distances between TVs, PCs and handheld devices in the unlicensed 60 GHz frequency range. WirelessHD was initially targeted for audio/video (A/V) with data applications (laptops, printers, etc.) to follow.

WirelessHD (WiHD) founders include SiBEAM, LG, NEC, Panasonic, Sony, Toshiba and Samsung. At 60 GHz, transmission is highly directional; however, in 2007, SiBEAM demonstrated its OmniLink60 CMOS chips which intelligently steer the signal to take advantage of surface areas such as walls and objects in the room using an array of up to 36 antennas on a 1" square surface. WirelessHD radios transmit up to 4 Gbps at 10 meters, with up to 25 Gbps expected in the future. See WiGig and ISM band.
