WinChip definition - computer

A Pentium MMX-class CPU chip from Via Technologies, Inc., Fremont, CA (www.viatech.com). Originally developed by Centaur Technology, Inc., Austin, TX, Via acquired Centaur's designs in 1999. The Socket 7-based WinChip, which never caught on, was optimized for Windows applications, and the C6 models were introduced in 1997 at 180 MHz and 200 MHz. C6+ chips contained enhanced instructions for 3D graphics.
