In 1976, it introduced the first floppy disk controller, and later, hard disk controllers. In the late 1980s, it introduced a line of display adapters for the PC and also entered the disk drive business. Western Digital's line of award-winning Caviar drives, introduced in 1990, have been widely used in PCs.
