Visual FoxPro

Visual FoxPro definition - computer

An Xbase development system for Windows from Microsoft. Originally known as FoxPro for Windows, FoxPro for DOS, etc., Visual FoxPro added object orientation and client/server support. Although FoxPro usage is on the decline, the language is highly regarded by the developers who use it. Many business applications, both large and small, have been written in Visual FoxPro.

Starting with Version 3.0, Visual FoxPro added support for ActiveX and became the first 32-bit Windows product release for Windows 95. The program does not use or install the Windows .NET framework, but it is compatible with certain .NET applications. Visual FoxPro stems from FoxBASE, which was originally developed for DOS by Fox Software and widely praised for its speed and compatibility with dBASE.
