USB turntable
A phonograph turntable that is used to convert tracks on vinyl records into a digital format such as CD audio or MP3. Containing a built-in phono preamp, which is required for amplification and equalization, the turntable converts the analog signal from the cartridge into digital PCM. Audio software in the computer is used to record the PCM and convert it into the required format.
Do It Yourself
The USB turntable makes it convenient for consumers to convert vinyl collections. However, music enthusiasts can use their own turntables, but must obtain a phono preamp because the output of the turntable is not high enough to feed the line-in port of their sound cards. External phono preamps are available to accommodate such applications. See turntable, phono preamp and PCM.
