TOP
(Technical Office Protocol) A communications protocol for office systems developed in the early 1980s by the Computer Services division of Boeing in Seattle, WA. It is often used in conjunction with MAP, the factory automation protocol developed by GM. TOP is used in the front office, and MAP is used on the factory floor. TOP uses the CSMA/CD access method (Ethernet), while MAP uses token bus.
