task switcher
The part of the operating system that causes the CPU to stop executing the instructions in one application and start executing them in another. The task switcher is both manually and automatically operated. Users can manually use the task switcher to give one program priority, and the operating system automatically switches between background programs to keep them running simultaneously. See task switching.
