The SIIA sponsors conferences, newsletters and awards and is the 1999 merger of the Software Publishers Association (SPA) and the Information Industry Association (IIA).

SIIA supports the SPA's well-established anti-piracy activities as a separate entity. The SPA Anti-Piracy division of SIIA supports legislation for copyright enforcement and works with the DOJ and FBI to enforce the NET Act.
