Save As

Save As definition - computer

A command in the File menu of most applications that causes a copy of the current document or image to be created. It differs from the regular Save command, which stores the data back to the file and folder it originally came from. "Save As" lets the user make a copy of the file in a different folder or make a copy with a different name.

Export with Save As
In many applications, the Save As option is the way to save the data to a different file format, which is called "exporting." If the Save As dialog box offers several file types, it is providing the conversion to those formats. For example, in a graphics program, the Save As dialog might have numerous graphics format options (see below). See export.

"Save As" to Your Folders

Users often open and save files in their own folders, but have to navigate through the Windows' file hierarchy to locate them. EZPlaces from GJC Software, Inc., Bayville, NJ (www.gjcsoftware.com) lets you change the Places icons in the file dialog boxes to the folders you really want. Note the difference between this dialog and the one above.
