Red Book audio definition - computer

The specification of the digital audio CD (CD-DA), which is derived by sampling sound waves at 44.1 kHz and converting each sample into a 16-bit number. Red Book audio and CD-DA are synonymous with the music Compact Disc format introduced in 1983. See CD.
