public data network

public data network definition - computer

A communications network provided by a carrier organization that makes its transport available to companies. Customers attach to such networks using a variety of protocols including frame relay, ATM, IP, etc., and pay by the month or on a per-byte basis. Contrast with private data network. See VPN.
