product key
A series of letters and digits that must be entered during software installation to authorize the user. Product keys are found on the back of the CD-ROM package, inside a paper manual or on a separate sheet of paper that comes with the package. For volume licenses, where one copy of the application is installed on multiple machines, the product key must be obtained from the vendor.
