PoE definition - computer

(Power Over Ethernet) Transmitting DC power to the target device at the end of an Ethernet cable by carrying power in the unused 4/5 and 7/8 wires. It enables access points, IP surveillance cameras and other remote devices to be installed where there is no AC power outlet. See PoE adapter.
