pluge pattern
An on-screen pattern of light and dark gray bars used to balance the gray scale of a monitor. The patterns differ, but the goal is to obtain the optimum black. When on screen, the black level is adjusted with the "bias control," "cutoff control" or "low-light control," (depending on the monitor) for each of the red, green and blue signals. Sometimes, only red and blue are adjustable, using green as a reference point.
