phone tree
The hierarchy of voice messages in an interactive voice response system (IVR). The phone tree is the verbal counterpart to the graphical user interface. Poorly designed phone trees drive everyone crazy, primarily because people like to talk to a person over the phone, otherwise they would opt to transact their business via the company's Web site. See IVR and gethuman.
