PCS definition - computer

(1) (Personal Communications Services) Refers to wireless services that emerged after the U.S. government auctioned commercial licenses in 1994 and 1995. This radio spectrum in the 1.8-2 GHz range is typically used for digital cellular transmission that competes with analog and digital services in the 800 MHz and 900 MHz bands.

(2) (Personal Conferencing Specification) A videoconferencing technology that uses Intel's Indeo compression method. It is endorsed by the Intel-backed Personal Conferencing Working Group (PCWG). Initially competing against H.320, Intel subsequently announced its videoconferencing products will also be H.320 compliant.
