patch cable definition - computer

A specific length of cable terminated at each end with a plug or socket. Also called a "patch cord," a patch cable is typically short, ranging from one to 30 feet; however, cables up to 100 feet and more are also available. Any reasonably short cable (telephone, audio, video, LAN, etc.) with connectors on both ends can be called a patch cable or patch cord. See patch panel and pigtail.
