parallel transmission definition - computer

Transmitting several bits simultaneously using multiple lines (8, 16, 32, etc.). The pathways between the CPU and memory are parallel, and between the CPU and peripheral devices, they are typically parallel, but may also be serial. Contrast with serial transmission. See system bus and PCI.
