parallel interface definition - computer

A multiline channel that transfers one or more bytes simultaneously. For years, desktop and laptop computers connected printers via a 36-wire parallel interface, transferring a byte of data over eight wires, the remaining wires used for control signals. Contrast with serial interface. See parallel port.
