palmtop definition - computer

A computer small enough to hold in one hand and operate with the other. Also called a "handtop," these ultra-small computers may have specialized keyboards or keypads for data entry applications or have small qwerty keyboards.

One of the First Palmtops

This was one of the first fully functional palmtops going back to the days of the 486 CPUs. It weighed less than a pound and a half. The CompactFlash card, which was used for storage, is coming out of the PC Card slot. (Image courtesy of SanDisk Corporation.)
