Orkut
A social networking site sponsored by Google and named after Google developer Orkut Buyukkokten. Launched in early 2004, Orkut was originally an invitation-only site, but was later opened to the general public. Membership exceeded 40 million users within two years.
Lists of Friends
Orkut members list and rate their friends; for example, "Best Friends," "Acquaintances," etc. If a friend is dropped from a user's list, that user is dropped from the friend's list. If an Orkut member places another member on a "Crush List," both members are notified when the other member does the same. See social networking site.
