OpenReader

OpenReader definition - computer

An XML-based electronic text format from the OpenReader Consortium (www.openreader.org). Using some components from the Open eBook specification, OpenReader was designed as a common format for e-books, articles, documents, news and other text-based publications that include graphics. Digital rights management on behalf of publishers and authors is an issue at the forefront for OpenReader.

Osoft, Inc. (www.osoft.com) was the first company to offer OpenReader-based e-books and readers. In 2006, it launched ThoutReader in beta, renaming it dotReader upon its rollout in 2007. See Open eBook and e-book.
