OmniPage definition - computer

Character recognition software for PCs and the Macintosh from Nuance Communications, Inc. Burlington, MA (www.nuance.com), which also owns the well-known speech recognition software, Dragon NaturallySpeaking. It was the first personal computer software that could distinguish text from graphics and convert a wide variety of fonts into text.

Capabilities include taking PDF documents and converting them to word processing or spreadsheet format, ready for editing. OmniPage was originally developed by Caere Corporation, which merged with ScanSoft, Inc. in 2000. ScanSoft acquired its rival, Nuance, in 2005 and proceeded to do business under the Nuance name.
