offline file
A file on a remote server that is temporarily stored locally. In order to allow users access to data when they are not on the network, operating systems and applications can save remote files on the local hard disk. When the user goes online, the files are synchronized. If the remote file has changed, it is downloaded. If the local copy has changed, it is uploaded if the user has permission to update its contents. See offline and offline browser.
