(Number Nine Visual Technology Corporation, Lexington, MA) A manufacturer of PC display adapters founded in 1982 as Number Nine Computer Corporation by Andrew Najda and Stan Bialek.

Over the years, Number Nine display adapters were highly praised for advancing the state of the art. Products often began with a #9 prefix, such as #9GXe and #9FX. In 1999, the assets of Number Nine were acquired by S3 Corporation, which subsequently sold manufacturing and production rights to ASIC architects Jim Macleod and Frank Bruno, principals of the original Number Nine engineering team. The new company they formed in 2002 was Silicon Spectrum, Inc., Londonderry, NH (www.siliconspectrum.com). See SONICblue.
