multiport bridge definition - computer

A bridge with more than two ports. There is little difference between a multiport bridge and a switch, such as used to switch Ethernet packets, except that the multiport bridge may introduce some overhead. The switch must be able to maintain the full wire speed of the medium between any two ports.
